Weather Forecast

A friend from uni told me his theory about the Perth metropolitan weather forecast. According to him they would never forecast temperatures higher than 39C. It was just a theory I think because he never actually saw a forecast for more than 39C. But guess what the temperature forecast is for tomorrow ?! I so rubbed it in ;-)

Latest Project - Wedding Homepage

Ian had the idea of doing a wedding homepage. So instead of answering the same questions over and over again, we would put all the information about - Where & When, To & From, On the day, Accommodation,... on the web. Sounds simple but since I like challenges I installed TYPO3 on my web server and got a free template from the internet. It took me a couple of days to have everything up and running but now it is so simple and easy to add content, create forms, manage user accounts, have everything in 3 different languages ...

Holiday Mood

I am still in holiday mood. Whereas holiday means organising a wedding and the house renovations. There are so many things to do - wedding invitations, guest and address lists, wedding homepage, organising trades people, getting quotes from plumbers, from electricians, from the cabinet guys who are going to make the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, ... There is no space left in my head for my PhD...

The Chaser

I was chasing water pipes today :-) Since we are going to cut and demolish walls we wanted to make sure that we wouldn't accidentally hit a pressured water pipe. So I did a lot of chasing. But it was good fun and I quite enjoyed the physical work - a nice change from sitting in an office the whole day. But after 3 days my wrists hurt and I was cured from wanting to do more chasing ;-)

Busy, busy, busy

The New Year just started and we are already extremely busy with the renovation of our unit. After spending NYE down in Mandurah at a friend's place we drove straight back the day after to work on our unit. There are soo many things to do in preparation for the big renovations. Strictly speaking I wouldn't call it renovations any more. We are nearly doing a rebuilt - we are replacing all doors and windows, demolishing internal walls. They only thing that stays the same is the roof and most of the external walls. Can't wait until it is finished!

Happy New Year

After I survived the dentist, the shark and the bees I am looking forward to a very busy and exciting 2009. It will be a year full of positive changes and challenges for us and I am looking forward to conquer them all :-)

Diving with Sharks

I was on the phone to my friend in Germany telling her about the recent shark attack just south of Perth and that I witnessed a shark alarm AND I told her that I was about to go diving the next day. After saying this I actually thought about it a bit longer! The diving trip with the UWA University Club (UUC) was planned about a week ago. And since I haven't dived for quite a while I thought it would be a good refresher. After all Ian and I met during a diving weekend with this club. The recent shark attack was like a totally different not at all connected event. Just after talking to my friend I realised that they ARE connected. We were about to dive only 20km off the beach where a man was killed by a shark only 2 days ago. [My parents are probably going to freak out reading this ;-)] But the guys from the club said that the shark is probably not hungry any more and that it is more likely to be hit by a boat that attacked by a shark while diving. Anyway, we had a very nice dive, saw colourful corals, lots of fish and NO sharks. But I don't know whether I would do this again...
