Karijini - Dales Gorge

The first night under the stars was great! With no other light source around there are so many more stars to see. The milky way looks like small white clouds scattered around the sky only that these 'clouds' are heaps of stars. It was really magical to see this.

We camped at the Dales camping area so we spent the whole day at Dales Gorge. We stepped down into the gorge and walked to Circular Pool and walking in the gorge is just beautiful. While it is hot and dry on top, down in the gorge it is cool, there is plenty of fresh water and lots of vegetation. There are ferns, moss and even trees. We had lunch at Fern Pool after a refreshing swim and a shower under the waterfall.

Ian went to Fern Pool as a kid and back then it was called the 'hidden pool' because not that many people would go there. Well today there is a boardwalk and a ladder for easy access into the water so we there were also a couple of families with little kids... We also swam at Fortescue Falls until a big group of backpackers disturbed the silence.
Later that evening we prepared dinner and while we were sitting around the tents we saw a dingo walking past. Apparently it is quite rare to see one of those wild dogs. We also heard them 'sing' during the night.
